Prince Buster – the Jamaican musician and ska pioneer – has died at the age of 78.

Born Cecil Bustamente Campbell in Kingston in 1938, he became an early pioneer of the musical movement with the records he released in the early 1960s, and was a major influence on the UK ska revival of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Indeed, the renowned London band ‘Madness’ was named after one of his classic tracks. Other Prince Buster hits included Al Capone and Judge Dread.
