Progressive Democrats founding member Bobby Molloy has died at the age of 80.
He was first elected to the Dáil for Galway West as a Fianna Fail candidate in the 1965 General Election.
He served as Minister for Local Government, Minister for Defence and Minister for Energy. before defecting to the Progressive Democrats in 1986.
He held his seat up until his retirement from political life in 2002.
He had served as Mayor of Galway in 1968-69.
Mr Molloy is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughters, Sorcha and Sinead, and sons, Donnacha and Dara.
